Drama

Through the use of drama, our goal is to give students the confidence and self-awareness to take on any challenging opportunity that may come their way.

By incorporating drama as an essential element of learning, our students are given a chance to celebrate the sheer richness and depth of human expression in all of its forms.

Drama is also a great avenue for students to get in touch with their solitude – a space where students have the option to shut out their surroundings and fully immerse themselves in a creative environment.

Whether students have the opportunity to perform in theatre productions or help out behind the scenes, studying Drama and Performing Arts not only engages with the creative side of the brain, it also helps students study better by developing cognitive abilities that complement study in other disciplines. It also allows them to conquer stage fright and learn more about body language along with stage presence.

Lancers indeed takes pride in stating that we have grade wise production mentioned in reverse chronology:

  • Grade 11 & 12 produced Shakespeare’s classic drama, ‘Hamlet.’ They explored their creativity and expressed themselves in exciting ways. The drama provided them an opportunity for vocal creative expression and imagination, learning to be risk takers, and gaining confidence.
  • Grade 10 presented yet another classic play, ‘The Death of a Salesman’ by American playwright Arther MIller. The play depicted the dangers of having unrealistic dreams and the turmoil that one has to undergo to achieve it. This enhanced their skills such as reading scripts, memorising and articulating dialogues lines, and most important analysing characters and themes.
  • Grade 9 took on an arduous job of presenting an Indian epic Mahabharata on the stage. It is a complex and multifaceted story having many characters, each with their own strengths, weaknesses, and motivations. Enacting it as a drama has helped the students to develop their own understanding of character development, and to explore the complexities of human nature.
  • Grade 7 presented a self-written production, named ‘The Jungle:An ecosystem that is well-oiled by the greed and hunger of everyone’. The students displayed exceptional skills of how to overcome stage fright and develop their public speaking skills.
  • The primary school also presented an array of productions, each showing the talent and the oozing confidence of the tiny tots. Performing in a drama production can be a transformative experience for students and every production by primary classes proved the same one after another.
