To deal with daily life challenges, it is important to learn life skills. There are students at primary schools that pick up life skills after their peers have, and that’s the reason they might be considered as insensitive or ignorant. Much as you don’t want your little one to grow up, you don’t want them to behave like a kid either as they may become overly dependent on you in the future. Therefore, it’s important to teach life skills early so that they become independent and develop healthy habits.

Here are few skills that students at Primary schools must know:

  • Pack their own bags

Children as young as 5 years old should be able to pack their own bags. Parents can keep a check initially before sending them to school. When children pack their bags they go through what homework needs to be done, whether there is anything important for parents and so on. This gives them a sense of independence.

  • Wake themselves up

Let the children set their own alarms and allow them to deal with their schedules of the day. The elder ones must know how to set alarms and follow them.

  • Cooking simple dishes

Do not be in hurry to teach them all in the kitchen. However, the children learn by observing, it is always good to be efficient in the kitchen from young by introducing them to the stove, pots and pans, and different ingredients. Children are eager to learn instant noodles or fry an egg.

  • Let them go out on their own

Before you let the child leave the house, show them a map route and point out the various landmarks and stations. Send them out for work and let them take the transport on their own to nearby places. This trains them to be more independent and hone their sense of direction.

  • Make their own money

When they are young, make them understand the importance of saving for rainy days. Give them a weekly allowance so that they learn how to split the money throughout the week. Also, mention how to survive instead of spending it all. Another way is taking them with you for grocery shopping. They get trained when they observe you comparing the prices.

  • Let them order their own food when dining out

Let the young one lead when you go out for dining. Even if he makes mistake, you can gently correct them and ask them to order again. If the child lacks confidence, ask him to prepare before so that he gets familiar with the steps.

  • Be aware of the basic first aid in Primary Schools

Disinfecting the wound or putting a plaster on it, these are the basic first aid steps. The child must be aware to carry out the basic first aid actions in case of emergency or serious situations. Knowing the symptom of fever or any other disease and knowing the medicine for that illness is important. They must know that before taking any medicine, they must consult an adult or a professional. Otherwise, the consequences might be dangerous.
