Imagination is the best design tool there is. It’s a design process, not an outcome. The design of your life and everything in it starts with what you imagine—and then bringing that imagination to life. That’s why top schools in Gurgaon created the ABLE Club: to give kids who want something more from school an outlet for their creativity, knowledge, and curiosity where they can develop skills by making things like masks or costumes for theatre productions.

The ABLE clubs teach design thinking skills like ideation, empathy, design concepts, design methodology, and design process. When a child engages in design thinking, they begin with a relevant question, something that is important to them. After that, they design a solution to the problem.

The design process is broken down into five steps: empathy and research; ideation before sketching designs on paper or digitally; prototyping—making something small at first so you can test it out with others; testing and reflection—taking time to review what worked well in your design and how well your audience receives it.

This design thinking process is something that the ABLE Club will be teaching kids. The club meets four times a month to focus on design thinking skills like ideation, empathy, design concepts, design methodology, and design process. This creative space for children provides them with an outlet in which they can explore their creativity while learning about things that matter to them.

They design a solution, which can be as simple or complex as they want it to be. They then turn that design into something real by making prototypes and testing them out with others. The ABLE Club meets after school for kids who are in grades one through ten; we also run an enrichment program where students continue their design thinking projects after school.

Students can further their design thinking projects by joining design teams that meet after school. These design teams are focused on specific design challenges, such as transportation or food security; they focus their work in these areas and engage with community partners to bring the solutions back to our members.

Top schools in Gurgaon make sure design thinking is an important part of their curriculum. The design process begins with young learners, where students create design challenges for one another and test out different ideas.

What are some design innovations coming from schools at the moment?

  • Designers like Nikhil who have created a modular school bag that can be scaled up or down.
  • Designers like Aarav who created an app to help farmers design their farms more efficiently.
  • Designers like Mishka created a design thinking workshop for non-engineer students to design prosthetics.

The ABLE Club is a club that helps teach your child to use their imagination. It’s about bringing knowledge and creativity together to give kids who want something more from school.

The club is about bringing our student’s thinking to the forefront. We design lessons for them to get creative, design thinking workshops that will help students who are not engineers design prosthetics and other inventions.

ABLE Club is about giving kids a place where they can find their own creativity outside of school time, but with the guidance of experts in design thinking.

Students who enjoy learning design thinking and creativity have a place to channel their interests. It’s about bringing knowledge and creativity together to give kids who want something more from school an outlet in which they can do this.

The ABLE Club is an opportunity for kids from top schools in Gurgaon who are interested in design and design thinking to learn from qualified coaches.
