MUN (Model United Nations)
Lancers International School has been an active participant in various Model UN conferences over the years in india gr abroad. With a vibrant MUN club to foster the talent of our students at school and a budding team of youth leaders ready to explore their international ambitions we have taken part in many large scale MUNs such as Harvard MUN,Welham MUN, Dubai International Academy MUN.
Model United Nations (MUN) conferences are simulations for those interested in learning more about the UN. Students take on the roles of diplomats from different countries, representing their nation in discussions on a particular agenda topic in the conference. These agendas reflect issues taken up by the UN for discussion, ranging from relatively general topics such as rights of religious minorities in a General Assembly, to specific issues such as improving accident safeguards surrounding nuclear plants in the IAEA. Delegates must research about their allotted countries in great detail, understanding their own foreign policy and thus, the considerations and compulsions that determine state behaviour at an international level. They must also research their committee agenda, fully exploring the intricacies of the issue at hand, including the background, history, its treatment in the UN system, resolutions passed on it, major countries involved, causes, consequences, past action and more. Finally, delegates must research and propose innovative and feasible solutions to the problem, within the mandate of the organ or agency they are simulating. The entire discussion is carried out through formal rules of procedure that require students to truly step into the shoes of a UN Diplomat.
Address by the Head of School
Welcome to the incipience of Lancers International School Model United Nations LISMUN 2020.
The LISMUN 2020 is unique right from its inception due to prevailing Covid circumstances; its virtuality is what sets it apart. The zeal and fervour with which LISMUN 2020 has been conceived by the organisers and received by participants is clear evidence of high levels of adaptability skills and an indication of acceptance of the new normal.
The pandemic has closed some doors but the indomitable spirit of humanity has opened many other vistas to view the world from a new perspective and explore the potential of virtual connectivity. We at Lancers believe that this new generation has the required open-mindedness to notice the opportunities in challenges.
Organising the LISMUN 2020 online allows the student community to get together on one platform to discuss and try to disentangle the issues of the world. MUN conference has been an important tool to develop perceptive thinking where students get to work on country committees, develop research skills when they inquire into issues and develop excellent conference skills while putting their points of view across.
LISMUN 2020 further helps our students develop leadership skills, confidence, problem-solving skills, public speaking skills, skills of negotiation, conflict resolution and others. It sharpens their point of view and perception of global issues and fosters holistic growth.
The LISMUN 2020 will be based upon the theme, ‘Actus Curiae Neminem Gravabit’ (an act of the court shall prejudice no man). It will also highlight equality and how the right to the substantive standard of equality is absolute. The theme is an amalgamation and in its pure sense resembles the motive that no governing body may be prejudiced against another. We believe in harmonious existence of people hence we want this to be the main area of focus for all.
I once again welcome you all and wish that you will make the most of this opportunity.
